NLLC Leadership

President, Farajii R. Muhammad
Farajii R. Muhammad is a young leader, student, and dynamic speaker from Baltimore, Maryland. At the age of 19, Farajii co-founded New Light Leadership Coalition, Inc. and currently serves as the President and spokesman for the youth-governed organization. Mr. Muhammad has 8 years of experience working with youth in the community and has served as the Youth Minister at the Nation of Islam's Muhammad Mosque Number Six in his hometown.

A passion for voicing the concerns of youth have led him to many avenues including speaking at community events, presenting workshops at conferences across the country, and interning at Baltimore City Hall. Farajii hosted Makes Me Wanna Holla, a youth talk radio show on Baltimore's WBGR 860AM and appeared every Wednesday with "Reality Check" on DayBreak with Anthony McCarthy, the first ever morning news show on Morgan State University's WEAA 88.9FM in Baltimore. He is currently the host of Listen Up! with Farajii Muhammad, airing every Monday at 6:00pm on WEAA 88.9 FM. Listen Up! is about going behind the news and straight to the issues by dialoguing with local newsmakers and national headliners about politics, education, health, finance, religion, and more, while always keeping young people in mind.

Farajii graduated from Towson University in May 2006 with a degree in Mass Communications and Public Relations and has also attended Baltimore City Community College. He was honored on the 2001 National Dean's list for his academic achievements and is a 2006 Echoing Green Fellow.

OFFICERS

Chair, Charles H. Britt, Jr.
Charles Britt is currently a Project Manager with Northrop Grumman Corporation, a Fortune 500 defense contractor. He has worked in the IT industry for over 6 years, having received a Bachelor of Science in Information Technology in December 2001.

As a result of his motivation to excel and propel his career, he has been afforded the opportunity to work at various corporations and federal government agencies. Beginning with an internship provided by INROADS, Inc., Mr. Britt has gone on to hold positions with two other large corporations – Lockheed Martin and Science Applications International Corporation. He has also used his technical skills to further high profile projects within the Office of the Secretary of Defense at the Pentagon, The White House, and the Central Intelligence Agency. While fulfilling his duties, he has traveled to Europe and the Middle East.

Mr. Britt has a long and distinguished record of achievement. His outstanding work, both academic and extracurricular, has earned him numerous awards and honors. A partial list of these honors includes State of Maryland Merit Scholastic Award, The President's Educational Award, and being nominated International Who's Who in Information Technology. He was also featured in the June 1996 issue of JET magazine for his academic accomplishments by the Carl Rowan Foundation, founded by the renowned journalist the late Carl Rowan Sr.

Mr. Britt actively participates in numerous technical, non-profit and professional organizations. He is a member of the National Society of Black Engineers, New Light Leadership Coalition, National Urban League and TechCorps of Maryland. His leadership roles have included Member, Board of Directors, NLLC, Inc; co-Chair and Founder of the Capitol College Student Council; President of the National Society of Black Engineers – Capitol College Chapter and currently President of the NSBE-AEDC Chapter.

Originally, from Indianapolis, Indiana, Charles is a highly sought after speaker, mentor, and workshop presenter in the Washington, DC area. His insightful workshops on topics such as the Digital Divide, Career Planning, Self-Motivation and Youth Leadership have inspired many youth and adults alike. Having spoke and presented at several conferences, schools and other events, he is considered by many to be one of the next most influential African Americans in America. As the Founder and President of 21st Century Leaders, a company dedicated to preparing today's youth to be the leaders of tomorrow, Mr. Britt is working toward helping to build America's future.

Vice Chair, Florence Pittman
Florence Pittman is a graduate of Howard University's School of Business where she majored in Hospitality Management. Currently, she holds the position of Chief Executive Officer of FLOW Enterprises, a business consulting firm in Chicago, Illinois. Florience is currently studying at DePaul University toward her MBA in Entrepreneurship. She sees entrepreneurship as the way to improve the lives of individuals all over the country and hopes to bring her expertise in this area to the youth of Baltimore through NLLC.

Secretary, Miafere Jones

Treasurer, Tamara M. Muhammad
When chosen to deliver a speech at her elementary school graduation, Tamara said that one day she wanted to have her own business so that no one could boss her around. Little did she know that years later her entrepreneurial dream would come to fruition. Today, Tamara is the owner of her own webdesign firm and co-founder of New Light Leadership Coalition, a nonprofit organization committed to empowering youth.

NLLC was born out of the desire to provide an avenue for young people to be exposed to opportunities. With their own money, 17 year-old Tamara and 19 year-old Farajii Muhammad set out to begin a youth leadership movement. Ms. Muhammad believes that, "young people must be raised to a higher level of consciousness to compete in an ever-changing, diverse society and emerge as successful leaders."

Tamara has won numerous awards and honors for her entrepreneurial achievements and leadership skills, including the Silver Medal from the NAACP ACT-SO National Competition (1999), 2nd Place in the Minority Enterprise Development (MED) Week EBLI Business Plan Competition, and the Youth Entrepreneur of the Year Award from the National Coalition for Empowering Youth Entrepreneurs (NCEYE) in 2000. She has also been affiliated with the National Foundation for Teaching Entrepreneurship (NFTE), the Howard University Entrepreneurial Society (Executive Board), and the Towson University Black Student Union. Always dedicated to community service, Tamara has volunteered for the Red Cross, Girl Scouts of Central Maryland, Morgan State University School of Engineering Summer Program, and has also served as a youth minister in East Baltimore.

Tamara graduated in May of 2003 from Towson University's College of Business and Economics with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration/Finance. She is currently pursuing a Master of Science in Mangement and Master of Business Administration (MBA) dual degree at the University of Maryland.

GENERAL BOARD MEMBERS

Fundraising Chair, Ebony Busby
Ebony Busby has progressed through the Sales and Marketing department at Black and Decker where she earned Sales Excellence awards and spearheaded marketing initiatives. She was awarded Black and Decker’s National Recruiting Award in 2006. Ebony is also a 2006 Rising Star award recipient for National Women of Color Technology.

Ebony is committed to the community and volunteers at the Historic East Baltimore Community Action Coalition (HEBCAC) assisting students who are preparing to attain their GEDs through writing workshops. She is also an active member of the Foreign Missions Ministry at New Psalmist Baptist Church focused on efforts to empower the people of east Africa. Ebony has a B.S. in Marketing from Morgan State University and is dedicated to ensuring that promising students from her alma mater are given opportunities to pursue careers in the corporate arena.

Conference Chair, Demar Roberts
Demar Roberts is a social activist, motivational speaker, leadership trainer and public speaker. He currently serves as the President & CEO of D. L. Roberts Enterprise and a consultant Programs & Public Relations Director for Vision Leadership Institute in Columbia, South Carolina. A non-profit organization geared towards providing healthy youth lifestyles services to South Carolinas youth. Roberts a Student Coordinator in the Office of Alumni Relations at South Carolina State University served prior as the Operations Specialist in the Division of Institutional Advancement at SCSU in the departments of WSSB 90.3 Radio Station and University Relations and Marketing, former Team Leader & Instructor at Gallaudet University in Washington, DC and Senior Finance Intern for the Williamsburg County Government. He most recently became the recipient of Dwight D. Eisenhower Fellowship in which he will provide studies of the United States transportation system to the federal government. Roberts serves on numerous local state, regional and national boards that have allowed him to advance the youth agenda in the areas of health, empowerment, education and civic engagement.

He is a member of NAACP National Youth Work Committee, Ex-Officio member of the Vision Leadership Institute Board of Directors, the SCSU Friends of Miller F. Whittaker Library Board of Directors the Student Representative for the South Carolina State University Endowment & Heritage Fund, and member of Perfect'd Praize Inc. Board of Directors. He currently serves as the Southeast Region NAACP National Youth Work Representative, servicing Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee the largest region in the NAACP.

Quinn Conyers
Quinn Conyers has been described as a natural born leader, trailblazer and entrepreneur. She is currently a graduate student at Howard University and recent founder of Speak2Society, a Public Speaking Firm specializing in Entrepreneurship Motivational Speaking. She is traveling to conferences and colleges motivating, inspiring, and empowering students to choose entrepreneurship as a viable career choice. Quinn is currently writing a book on student entrepreneurship in addition to balancing business with academics. She has been awarded several youth entrepreneurship awards and has been chosen as a fellow of the Emerging Minority Business Leadership (EMBL) program and the Emerging Business Leadership Summit (EBLS). Conyers is originally from Lancaster PA, and earned her B.A in Communication Studies with a minor in Spanish from West Chester University of PA. Conyers has spoken at the National Black Student Leadership Conference, Morgan State University's Engaging Youth Entrepreneurs for Change Conference, in addition to giving the keynote address at her undergraduate institutions minority commencement ceremony. She was selected as a 2006 Youth Leader of the Year by New Light Leadership Coalition, Inc.

Geneva Johnson
Geneva wanted to make changes in the community but could not find an organization that provided opportunities for youth to participate or get involved. As a result, she created the first and only youth service organization in the northeast Bronx run by youth, for youth. BRING IT ON creates youth service projects to promote youth leadership and community involvement. She promotes community service, leadership development, and civic engagement through service learning projects that range from Environmental clean-ups, Youth Jams, Entrepreneurship, and You Go Girl Go Empowerment Forums. She galvanized the youth in the community to create change so that they can have other options and opportunities, other then running the streets and getting into illegal activities. She says “If we know better, than we would do better.” Geneva targets girls ages 9-21 who live in low-income housing, youth group homes, and attend the local middle and high schools. Working with the New York City Department of Youth and Community Development, she was able to challenge 60 youth from 20 difference countries on the benefits of community service, youth development, and entrepreneurship. She is currently a student at SUNY Binghamton University.

Donovan Prescott
Donovan Prescott is a student and dedicated young leader from Baltimore, Maryland. In 2004 he was awarded the Youth Leader of the Year Award by New Light Leadership Coalition, Inc. and served as the Communications Chair for the organization. He was also involved in his community as a Peer Educator for the Baltimore City Male Reproductive Health Initiative (BCMRHI) of the Baltimore City Health Department from 2004 to 2006 and has participated in the Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) Program at Owings Mills High School. Donovan began realizing his leadership potential while participating in NLLC's Summer 2003 Youth Leadership Institute. Upon graduation from the program, he went on to become a Junior Trainer for the Youth Leadership Development Program to help other young people realize their leadership potential and he now holds the position as the organization’s Lead Trainer.

Donovan was the Student Representative for Parent Involvement Schools of Excellence Program at his high school and he served as the Maryland State NAACP Youth Chairman for Teen Violence at Empowerment Temple AME Church. He was also the Chairman for African American Organization's (AAO) Teen Violence and Health Awareness Committee at his high school. Donovan was recognized as a Silver Medalist in the NAACP Baltimore County ACT-SO Oratory Competition and received the Hopkins Pre-College Empowerment Program Award.

In 2006, Donovan graduated from Owings Mills High School and he is now embarking on his second year at Morgan State University. He started as a Biology major and was elected Freshman Class President in his fall semester. He is continuing to work towards his goal of a medical degree for a practice in the future.
