An Introduction to Youth Leadership Time: 2 Hours Age Group: 16 – 25 Issues of identity, values, and self-hatred will be directly addressed in this session. Introspection is encouraged to delve into personal motivations and how they affect personal leadership style. Learn why and how to write a personal mission statement and apply the goal setting model to a "personal leadership plan.”
Social Development
Creating Your Own Atmosphere Time: 1 Hour Age Group: 16 – 25 Many young people are affected by their environment, both positively and negatively. Leaders create their own atmosphere not by reacting to the current conditions around them, but by being agents of change. Learn to overcome peer pressure, identify stereotypes, and understand cultural influences.
Expanding Your Circle of Influence Prerequisite: Am I a Leader? An Introduction to Youth Leadership Time: 1 Hour Age Group: 16 – 25 Mastering the art of communication is a key skill every young leader must possess. In this interactive session learn how to use the communication process to effectively express ideas and receive input from others. In addition, learn the basics of successful networking to expand your circle of influence.
Public Speaking 101 Prerequisite: Am I a Leader? An Introduction to Youth Leadership Time: 1 Hour (Maximum 10 students) Age Group: 16 – 25 This session helps young leaders overcome the fear of speaking in front of a group of people by providing the tools necessary to properly prepare for a speech. Learn the Seven Steps to Preparing a Speech, practice giving speeches, and receive feedback to improve public speaking skills.
How to Be a Team Player Time: 1 Hour Age Group: 16 – 25 It is essential for leaders to be able to communicate with others—especially in small groups or teams. In this session, learn the role of the team leader, the dynamics of working with others, how to solve problems as a group, and participate in team building activities.
Keeping the Peace: Practical Steps for Resolving Conflicts with Peers Time: 1 Hour Age Group: 16 – 25 In order to work well with other people, leaders must be good at resolving conflict. Learn the steps of conflict resolution and guidelines for resolving disputes. Through role playing of real-life situations, receive hands-on training in managing conflict.

Unearthing Your Gifts and Talents: Academic Excellence in the Classroom and Beyond Time: 1 Hour Age Group: 16 – 25 Education is the sum total of everything learned throughout life, in and out of school. Learn the importance of education and the strategies for studying that fit your learning style. In addition, identify personal strengths and weaknesses to aid in the development of educational and career goals that reflect your gifts and talents.
Navigating the Road to College Time: 1 Hour Prerequisite: Unearthing Your Gifts and Talents: Academic Excellence in the Classroom and Beyond Age Group: 16 – 19 Choosing a college or university to attend is one of the most important decisions a young leader has to make. There are several options to consider when choosing an institution of higher learning. Learn how to navigate the road to college by determining criteria for college selection, receiving tips on the application process, and identifying financial aid options.
Career Skills for the Young Professional Prerequisite: Unearthing Your Gifts and Talents: Academic Excellence in the Classroom and Beyond Time: 1 Hour Age Group: 18 – 25 In this session, learn the tools to build a successful career by developing an effective resume, learning job interview skills, and finding out what employers look for in a candidate. Participate in mock job interviews to practice answering the most commonly asked questions.
