Futures: What You Need to Know about Getting into College or This is
an interactive workshop designed by young people, for young people, about
educational or occupational options after high school or college graduation.
The session will provide youth with “insider information” about the
importance of, and strategies explaining how, to successfully prepare early
for college and graduate school, such as:
applying to the school of your choice, tips on taking standardized
tests and writing essays, getting recommendations, and finding scholarships
or financial aid. Workshop
participants will have an understanding of how to select a school that
best suits their educational, cultural, and personal needs or goals, as well
as future career interests. Youth who are not interested in attending a
college or university will be provided with alternatives to formal education
that will better suit their needs and interests as well. |

'What
In The World Are You Saying?' – The Art of Effective Communication Good
communication–both speaking and listening–is very vital to the success of a
leader. We often already know what to
say, but knowing how to say it can sometimes be a big obstacle to conveying
your message to those who would follow you.
The goal of this workshop is to give participants the tools they need
to overcome this obstacle and become better communicators. Participants will get a basic
understanding of the way people communicate, the barriers to effective
communication and the impact of not applying these principles. Listening skills are also covered during
this very interactive and informative session. Workshop attendees will leave with a greater understanding of
how effective communication greatly impacts one’s leadership
development. |

How Bias and Ignorance Effect
Success We live
in a society where prejudice and ignorance breathes not only in the soul of
this country but through the unconscious minds of people, institutions, and
cultures. This interactive workshop will allow us to (1) reflect on our
experience with prejudice, (2) how privilege plays a pivitol role in our
lives, (3) discuss ways the different types of –isms are promoted in our
society, and (4) find ways to deal with them. We will create plans that will
promote youth to unite people and look at resources that can assist us along
